What is Chlamydia?
Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) caused by bacteria. Women comprise the majority of infected cases. In sexually active men and women, Chlamydia can be through sexual contact with an infected person. Chlamydia can be transmitted during vaginal, anal, oral sex. Because there is often no symptoms, people who are infected with chlamydia may unknowingly transmit chlamydia to their sexual partners. Medical Symptoms
Chlamydia is called the “silent” disease because around 75% of infected women and at least 50% infected men have no chlamydia symptoms. If any symptoms do occur then they become visible usually within 1 to 3 weeks of exposure.
The infection is often not diagnosed and treated until they become complicated.If you think you have chlamydia or worry about them, then you and your sex partners should consult a doctor immediately.
The chlamydia std infection first attack cervical urethra. Even, if the infection spreads from the cervix to the fallopian tubes, some women may not be aware with sign and symptoms. If you have any Chlamydia symptoms, that may be lower abdominal pain, back pain, nausea, fever, pain during sex, and bleeding between menstrual periods.
Men with symptoms may have discharge from the penis and burning sensation when urinating. Men can also be seen burning and itching around the opening of the penis or pain and swelling in the groin, or both. The Chlamydia can also infect the throat from oral sexual contact with an infected partner.
Signs of Chlamydia in Men
A man with chlamydia usually experience a discharge from the penis. Men can also experience inflammation of the pipe from the bladder to the tip of the penis (urethritis) and inflammation of the tube leading from testicles to the penis (epididymitis).
You can even experience mild irritation at the end of his penis, that disappear usually after two or three days. However, after the discomfort disappears, you can still become infected with chlamydia. This means that you can transmit it to a sexual partner. There is also risk of complications in inflammation and swollen testicles.
In rare cases, chlamydia can lead to unusual conditions that affect the eyes and joints, known as Reiter syndrome. Chlamydia can also lead to fertility problems in men, about half of all men with symptoms have impair fertility, for example, epididymitis.
Chlamydia Symptoms in Women
In women, genital chlamydia, usually does not cause any symptoms. Some women may have a “nonspecific symptoms, such as:
- Changes in vaginal discharge, and
- Mild lower abdominal pain.
If the Chlamydia infection are not treated they may cause the following symptoms:
- Pain during sexual intercourse, or from time to time,
- Bleeding between periods.
Chlamydia infection can also spread to the womb, and can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). PID is a leading cause of infertility, ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage.
Chlamydia Treatment: Chlamydia STD infection is treated with antibiotics. If anyone thinks he is infected with chlamydia, he should consult a doctor and have a chlamydia test and take the medicines.
