Acid Reflux Symptoms in Women
 
What is Acid Reflux?
 
Acid Reflux is a common condition in which acids from the stomach flow back up into the esophagus. This action is called reflux.  Clogged Arteries Symptoms
 
Acid reflux occurs due to the failure of muscular actions in the esophagus or other protective mechanisms. The medical term for acid reflux is Gastro-esophageal reflux commonly known as GERD.   
There are various acid reflux symptoms in women and men, often severe enough to disrupt the quality of life of people with this disease.
 
Some of the symptoms of acid reflux is most often include pain and burning sensation in the chest, which usually occurs behind the breastbone, and then moves to the neck and throat and often lasts hours. In general, these symptoms improve or worsen by eating foods. Experiencing sour or bitter taste of acid in the back of the neck is a common acid reflux symptom.
 
Acid Reflux Symptoms
 

1. Heartburn. Heartburn is the main symptom of GERD. This is a burning sensation that extends from the stomach into the chest and neck. Heartburn is more likely due to the following activities:

  • Eating a heavy meal
  • Bending over
  • Lifting
  • Lying down, particularly on the back

 

2. Dyspepsia. Up to half of GERD patients have dyspepsia, a syndrome, which are grouped as follows:

  • Pain and discomfort
  • The feeling of fullness in the stomach
  • Nausea after eating
  • Those who do not have acid reflux problem may also have dyspepsia.

3. Regurgitation. Regurgitation is the feeling of backing up acid in the throat. Sometimes acid regurgitates as far as the mouth and can be "experienced as a wet burp."

 

Acid Reflux Symptoms in Women

 

Men and women usually have the same symptoms and signs of acid reflux. However, during pregnancy, women have different symptoms of acid reflux. Womens usually experience heartburn and indigestion during pregnancy. Women can also experience nausea during pregnancy as a sign of acid reflux disease.

 

There are a few factors that should be taken care of. During pregnanacy, women should avoid smoking. Other factors like being overweight, diabetes, asthma and dry mouth increase the risk of acid reflux disease in women during pregnancy.
